New Rule Requires Contractor Disclosure of Executive Compensation – More Transparency or More Bureaucracy?

Our friends at leading government accounting firm Goodman and Company have a pretty direct take on some of the changes The Obama Administration is taking towards a more open government and how it affects contractors, in this case some new changes in reporting requirements that affect federal contractors. An interim rule, which took effect July 8 and will be phased in over the next nine months, amends the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). The intent is to ensure that FAR complies with two federal laws mandating greater transparency in government…. Read the entire article and find out how it affects you.

Many government contractors that have had success bringing services to the Federal Government often consider supplying products as well. One of the most logical strategies is to determine if a GSA schedule is the right way to go. In this comprehensive article, our partner Argy discusses the pros and cons of getting a GSA contract. While the potential rewards of a GSA Schedule contract can be high, there are some risks associated with this type of procurement vehicle. A company looking to obtain a GSA Schedule contract should carefully consider these risks in light of the potential advantages prior to delving into the world of GSA Schedule contracting. If a company chooses to pursue a GSA Schedule contract it should be cognizant of pertinent regulatory requirements and strive to comply with these requirements to mitigate the risk of non-compliance.

There are unique requirements necessary to doing business with the government. Government contractors are continually challenged by the mixed signals coming from the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA). The past year has seen the implementation of new pass-fail criteria for DCAA audits, leadership changes at the DCAA, and seemingly high-turnover at the auditor level. Join us for this provocative webcast to understand tips on navigating the changes and guidance on how to prepare to ensure successful audits in the future.

As a result of unemployment rates hitting an all-time high in 2009, we saw changes made to federal and state tax rates, and new regulations introduced attempting to jumpstart the economy and employment. All of this will have an impact on small businesses for years to come. This white paper from our partner TriNet will help growing government contractor leaders answer the following questions: (1) What are the ramifications of new regulations and tax laws? (2) How will these changes affect my business? (3) What are best practices to control costs as these taxes increase?

From the June/July “High-Growth Government Contractor News“.

We were guests on the Federal News Radio Gov Con Straight Talk show to discuss management strategies for companies that provide services to the government and want to start selling products, and vice versa. Companies that sell products to the Federal Government are always looking for ways to expand into more lucrative and higher margin service offerings. And service providers are often looking for product offerings to round out their business lines. Either way, it’s easier said than done. Listen to the show here.

On the show, Rich Marksberry of ROM & Associates, Christine Zmuda of Microsoft, and I discussed the major issues companies typically face when adding products or services to the mix. Product companies are concerned with managing high-volume transactions, which requires effective order management, quoting processes, and inventory and shipping controls, among many other challenges. Services, however, are typically done over a long period of time and require rigid tracking of billing and related implementation activities.

Product companies now providing services need to comply with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and well as Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) compliance. Both are usually quite foreign to existing operations. Listen to the show for the management concerns you also need to be aware of.

Also, I invite you to visit our new YouTube channel to see our new solutions overviews and testimonials.

Best regards,
Bernard Mustafa
